Main Responsibilities:

  • The Chemical Operator – R3 role is a temporary position.
  • Chemical Operator will support the R3 commissioning / start up phase;
  • Part of a multi-functional team in commissioning activities for R3
  • Assist in developing, implementing detailed procedures and training unit operators for clearing, properly using the LOTO procedure and permitting maintenance activities
  • Assist in developing operating procedures for new and updated equipment related to R3
  • Assist in developing LOTO procedures for new equipment
  • Assist in developing training materials for new equipment
  • Assist in developing maintenance Shutdown Procedures for new equipment
  • Actively participate test runs on new equipment reviewing and commenting on the operability
  • Participate on design reviews, PHAs, quality control reviews, kick-off meetings, etc.
  • Work with project team to define and document, key performance criteria and alarm logic
  • Assist with Contractor oversite as it relates to the installation and operation of new equipment. 
  • Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations to include the issuance of safe work permits (LOTO, hot work, etc.). 
  • Make necessary adjustments to equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions and quality. 
  • Monitor recording instruments, flow meters, panel lights, and other indicators, and listen for warning signals, to verify conformity of process conditions.
  • Control or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panel boards, control boards, or automatic equipment. Record operating data such as process conditions and instrument readings.
  • Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, and product quality. Draw samples of products to be tested in the lab to ensure that standards are met.
  • Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations or as directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Start pumps to wash and rinse reactor vessels, to exhaust gases and vapors, to regulate the flow of oil, steam, air or gas to towers and to add products to converter or blending vessels.
  • Notify maintenance, engineering and other auxiliary personnel to correct equipment malfunctions and to adjust power, steam, water or air supplies as needed.
  • Inspect and operate Utility Equipment such as towers, boilers, chillers and scrubbers.
  • Calculate material requirements or yields according to formulas as directed. Gauge tank levels, using calibrated rods and pressure gauges.

 

Core Requirements:

Required Experience, successful candidate must possess and utilize the following:
 

  • 3-5 years related batch chemical reactions formulation experience with highly hazardous chemicals
  • be a champion for change, embrace and lead continuous improvement
  • support and participate in 5S program and drive sustainability throughout the Site
  • complete all EHS specific training in a timely basis
  • knowledge of process equipment and equipment operations
  • participate in EHSS program including entering concern reports, PHAs, incident investigations, etc.
  • be a positive role model and lead by positive example
  • participate in preparing tanks and equipment for inspection or repairs
  • participate in PSSR for all project work
  • Strong computer skills, including SAP, MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and the Internet
  • Team player

Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements
 

  • Ability to work additional hours as necessary to maintain project schedules. Weekends may be included when needed.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs, ladders and enter confined space to review progress/quality at construction sites in all phases of construction.
  • Physical ability to make presentations and participate in meetings both on the construction site and in an office setting.
